Remove departments
This guide shows you how to remove departments from your organization. When you remove a department, positions assigned to it become unassigned and child departments may be affected.
Prerequisites
- You have the required permissions (see above)
- At least one department exists (Create departments)
Instructions
Click the Settings icon in the left sidebar, then navigate to Org Settings → Org Structure → Departments. Click the overflow menu (···) next to the department you want to remove and select Remove.
Step 1: Review the removal impact
Before confirming, review what will happen when the department is removed:
- Positions assigned to this department will become unassigned from any department.
- Child departments will become top-level departments (no longer have a parent).
Step 2: Confirm removal
- Click Remove department to confirm the deletion.
The department is removed and a confirmation message appears. The change is reflected immediately throughout Klarify.
Troubleshooting

| Cannot find the department | Use the search field to filter the department list by name. |
