Convert a call activity to an embedded subprocess

Convert a linked process call activity into an embedded subprocess when you want to bring its contents into the current process model. You can keep the source process model or archive or delete it as part of the conversion.

Prerequisites

  • You have the required permissions (see above)
  • The current process model contains a call activity linked to another process model

Instructions

Open the current process model in edit mode.

Step 1: Open the conversion workflow

  1. Select the linked process call activity on the canvas.
  2. In the Context Menu, click Convert to embedded subprocess.

The conversion uses the published version of the linked process model when one is available. Otherwise, it uses the draft version.

Step 2: Choose what to preserve

  1. Leave Preserve owners and performers on to copy the source process model’s owner and performer assignments.
  2. To keep the source process model, leave Archive source process model or Delete source process model off.
  3. To remove the source after conversion, turn on the option shown for its current state:
    • Archive source process model for a published source.
    • Delete source process model for a draft source.
  4. If you remove the source, choose how to carry its access forward:
    • Grant editors access gives the source process model’s editors immediate edit access to the current process model.
    • For a published source, Grant viewers access gives its viewers access only after the current process model is published.

When another document also calls the source process model, the archive or delete option is unavailable and the source must be preserved. The conversion copies its contents into the current process model while the original remains available to the other call activities — effectively cloning the source as an embedded subprocess.

Step 3: Confirm the conversion

  1. Confirm that you understand the source contents will be copied into the embedded subprocess.
  2. If you chose to archive or delete the source, also confirm that the operation cannot be undone.
  3. Click Convert and preserve source, Convert and archive source, or Convert and delete source.

The call activity is replaced with an embedded subprocess containing the source process model’s elements and connections.
