Convert activities to a subprocess
Collapse a group of related elements into one embedded subprocess to keep the main diagram readable. Klarify moves the selected elements inside the new subprocess and reconnects the surrounding flow for you.
To bring a linked process model into the current diagram instead, see Convert a call activity to an embedded subprocess.
Prerequisites
- The process model is open in edit mode.
- The elements you want to group are in the same pool.
Instructions
Step 1: Select the elements to group
- Click the first element on the canvas.
- Hold
⇧or⌘(Ctrlon Windows) and click each additional element.
You need at least two elements, and at least one of them must be a flow element such as an activity, event, or gateway. Data objects, data stores, and text annotations can be included alongside them.
The Context Menu appears around the selection with a single control, Convert to subprocess.
Step 2: Convert the selection
Click Convert to subprocess.
Klarify replaces the selected elements with a collapsed subprocess, marked with a + on the canvas. It is created at the centre of the selection, in the same pool. Open it to see the elements you grouped.
What Klarify does for you
- Adds a start event — if the selection contained no start event, Klarify adds one inside the subprocess and connects it to the element the flow reaches first.
- Reconnects the surrounding flow — sequence flows that crossed into or out of the selection are reattached to the subprocess itself, keeping any labels they carried.
- Keeps it a single change — the whole conversion is one step, so Undo reverses all of it at once.
